| A showcase for Filipino culture - Gulf Daily News Posted: 01 Dec 2009 02:16 PM PST A SHOWCASE of Filipino culture will be presented as part of the Filipino Club's 30th Anniversary celebrations this weekend. The event will take place from 3pm to 8pm on Friday at the Andalus Garden, Manama, and entry is free to all. It will depict a number of regional festivals in the Philippines and will highlight the nation's arts, culinary delights and musical performances. The celebrations will also showcase Filipino cuisine and fashion, traditional games, an arts, photography and handicrafts bazaar, cultural presentations, karaoke singing and information booths on government services available to overseas Filipino workers and special interest groups. The event will include a raffle draw with a new Mazda 3 and electronic items as prizes. Club president Willy Carpio said that the event, being held under the theme 'Building Community ... Celebrating Diversity ... Forging Solidarity', was a great way to raise funds for the club's Mabuhay Project. "The project is a seven-year undertaking that envisions building a clubhouse for the Filipino community," he said. "It will provide facilities for sports, social, educational and recreational activities for Filipinos, Bahrainis and other expat communities," he said. Mobitel Communication, Mass Rent-A-Car, Mass Computer Technology, I-Remit Global Remittance and National Finance and Exchange Co were named the event's major sponsors. Event partners include Lily The Flower Shop, Abante, Electronic World, Little Caesar Pizza, Hot Pot Restaurant, Kabayan Restaurant, Bahrain Precast Construction Company Basketball Team, project vice chairperson Julie Dizon, Phenomena Productions and Cathay Pacific. Meanwhile, the Miss Philippines Bahrain beauty pageant will continue with a talent round, a swimsuit contest and a coronation night on December 10, 11 and 18 respectively.
