| Up and Coming - Altoona Mirror Posted: 11 Mar 2010 09:15 PM PST Musical runs at Eisenhower UNIVERSITY PARK - The musical "A Year with Frog and Toad," based on characters and events in a series of popular children's books by Arnold Lobel, earned three Tony Award nominations, including best musical, during its run on Broadway. Now, the show's national tour will stop at Eisenhower Auditorium on the Penn State University Park campus at 2 p.m. March 27. Tickets are $18 for adults, $8 for University Park students and $13 for people age 18 and younger. Wilder play to be shown STATE COLLEGE - Next Stage will present Thornton Wilder's "Our Town" at The State Theatre at 8 p.m. April 9-10 and April 16 and 17 and at 3 p.m. April 10 and 11 and April 17 and 18. "Our Town" follows the small town of Grover's Corners, New Hampshire, through three acts: "Daily Life," "Love and Marriage" and "Death and Eternity." Tickets are $16 for the general public and $14 for students. Indie artists visit theater STATE COLLEGE - Independent pop artist Ingrid Michaelson, with special guest Cara Salimando, will perform at The State Theatre at 8 p.m. April 15. Michaelson first came to mainstream attention as an unsigned artist with numerous songs appearing on the ABC hit "Grey's Anatomy" and on such shows as "One Tree Hill" and "The Bad Girls Club." Her subsequent debut album "Girls and Boys" featured the hit "The Way I Am," which was featured in an Old Navy sales campaign. Tickets cost $27 and $17 for the first 250 Penn State University Park students. Juniata artists get exhibit HUNTINGDON - Juniata College students studying fine arts, photography and ceramics will exhibit art in a variety of media at the Juniata College Museum of Art from Thursday to April 10. The exhibit will feature more than two dozen works made by Juniata students during the 2009-2010 academic year. The works on display were created in art classes supervised by Monika Malewska, assistant professor of art, Bethany Benson, assistant professor of art, and Patricia Howard, lecturer in art. There is an opening reception at the museum from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday. The reception and continuing exhibition is free and open to the public. TCP holding new auditions TYRONE - The Tyrone Community Players will hold auditions for their third production of the season, "The Dixie Swim Club," at 7 p.m. March 14 and 15 at St. Matthews Parish Hall, Lincoln Ave. The cast consists of five Southern women whose friendships began many years ago, on their college swim team. 'Wizard of Oz' comes to Hall PITTSBURGH - The iconic musical "The Wizard of Oz" will be performed at Heinz Hall at 7:30 p.m. March 30 through April 1, 8 p.m. April 2 and 3, 2 p.m. April 3 and 1 and 6:30 p.m. April 4. The production is based on the Royal Shakespeare Company's adaptation of the work.
