| Fair guidebooks available - Vacaville Reporter Posted: 26 Jan 2010 01:00 AM PST The Dixon May Fair's premium guidebooks, listing what area residents can enter in the May 6-9 fair and the prize money to be awarded, are now available at the fair office, 655 S. First St., and online at www.dixonmayfair.com. Entry forms will be accepted beginning at 8:30 a.m. Monday. Entries close at 7 p.m., Friday April 9, except for cut flower entries, which close at 5 p.m., Friday, April 30. The guidebooks are sponsored this year by Superior Farms, Dixon. This year's fair theme is "Fun for Ewe." Residents can enter in a host of categories including interior living, fine arts, photography, floriculture, today's youth, industrial education, ag mechanics and junior livestock. The main delivery date for exhibits will be Saturday, April 24. Cut flowers will be accepted Wednesday, May 5. Entry forms for the "live" cooking contests are also due April 9. Themes for the open division (adults) class are "Cinco de Mayo" a Latin dish; "Fun for Ewe at the Dixon May Fair" and "New York, New York: Not your Usual Cheesecake." Exhibitors prepare the dishes at home and deliver them to the fair for live judging. Two events -- a dog show and horse show, open only to Solano County youths -- will be held prior to the fair. The dog care and training show is set for Saturday, May 1 on the fairgrounds. More information on entry forms for the dog show is available from the 4-H office at 501 Texas St., Fairfield, or by contacting Solano County 4-H program representative Valerie Williams at 784-1319 or vawilliams@ ucdavis.edu.The horse show, coordinated by Rhonda Rayn of Dixon, is one day only this year instead of the previous two days.
